PLAY SYNOPSIS

Kennedy is having a rough time. His dad has been gone for eight months now, starting a new family with that woman. He’s not getting on with his mum who keeps on pressuring him to help out more around the house. On top of that, he keeps on getting into trouble at school. It seems like no one understands how hard it is to be a teenager these days. So when his friends convince him to break into the spooky, abandoned junk shop downtown, he thinks it will be a good distraction. Little does he know that the mysterious Controller is about to turn his life upside down. Kennedy and his tech-savvy, Generation Z friends are sucked into a 1950’s world, where their technology doesn’t work and they are forced to confront their real feelings and issues to try and find a way back home. All the while, the Controller is hunting them down, wanting to make them food for his ‘machine’. This play blends projections with live action, and explores many themes, including the impact of technology on real life relationships, women’s rights both past and present and modern family dynamics.
